User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:90.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/90.0
Steps to reproduce:
Thunderbird 78 on Windows 10 using Google Calendar (default in the Pacific Daylight Time time zone for e.g. July 2021) via the "Provider for Google Calendar". This bug has been present for years.
- On Windows 10, set the computer's time zone to "UTC-3:00 Brasília" (for example in July 2021).
- Go to Tools|Options and set the Thunderbird calendar time zone to "America/São Paulo" (which is the same as Brasília).
- Create an all-day event. Set the start date as 2021-07-01, and the end date as 2021-07-09. The start time will show "Local Time", but the end date will show "America/São Paulo". Select "Save and Close". The event will show up in the calendar as July 1–9, 2021 as expected.
- Now double-click on the event. The dialog will show the starting date as 2021-07-01, but show the end date as 2021-07-08! In addition, suddenly the time zone of the event shows "America/Los Angeles".
- Change the end date to 2021-07-09 as it should be and select "Save and Close". Now the event is shown on the calendar as July 1–10, 2021!
Actual results:
Each time you edit an all-day event in the calendar in a different time zone than the Google calendar default, it shifts the ending date back by a day, and does not match what is selected in the dialog. Once a multi-date event is created, become almost impossible to edit its ending date, as the date shown and the date actually saved will keep shifting.
Expected results:
- Simply opening the editing dialog of a multi-date all-day event should not modify the ending date.
- Saving a multi-date event event without making changes should not shift the date.
- Moreover for all-day events, the time zone should make no difference whatsoever, as the events should be in terms of the date itself (whatever the current time zone is), independent of the time zone.

Same problem with version 91?

Yes it's still a problem with Thunderbird 91.3.0. Just like I described above.
Can no one just test this and try to reproduce this?

I think someone is already working this TZ issue. But I'm not a calendar user, so I defer to others

Can't this "someone" who is maybe-I've-heard-rumors-possibly working on this comment on this ticket? Or link to the ticket that they are developing against?
It doesn't sound like Mozilla cares much about getting its calendar to work correctly with basic all-day-event functionality. This bug has been a problem for ages.

Let me rephrase, I'm confident this is being worked on, and you may have noticed I already CC "someone", who is the person who I chatted with a few days ago. So please don't badger the bug report. Furthermore, it's a Saturday - no one on the paid staff is going to be responding today.

I did not intend to imply that I expected someone to reply on a Saturday.
I also didn't intend to badger anyone.
However I did intend to express my frustration about lack of feedback from Mozilla after three months. I also meant to imply that it might be more credible that someone is actually looking into this if, some time during three months (Saturdays excluded), that person took a few seconds to comment, "hey, I reproduced the issue; we're trying to find the problem" instead of relying on someone (you) who admittedly is "not a calendar user" even, to provide an update.
I think those are reasonable sentiments, and aren't directed at anyone personally. The point is that a working calendar doesn't seem to be Mozilla's priority.
