User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:90.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/90.0
Steps to reproduce:
I used firefox and had to stop using the pc for some time, about 1h, (I mean, like awaiting for a long compiling session). I've disabled all suspensions actions too.
Actual results:
it's nomore possible to type a new website address and neither possible to type in the search bar. It's like if the keyboard gets locked. I can move to other opened tabs, reduce the window .. but not typing. Unique solution I've found: kill firefox and restart it. Note: Using 90.0.1 I not had such problem (I've not tested 90.0.2).
This happens on Windows10 and Linux versions, 64 bit (the Operative Systems I've)
Expected results:
To always be able to type

Does the problem still happen if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? (Safe Mode disables add-ons, extensions and themes, hardware acceleration and some JavaScript stuff in order to exclude some possible reasons for problems.) See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
And does this also happen with a new and empty profile? See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Address Bar' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Nicola, are you seeing something similar to bug 1725886 where search engines do not appear?

hi, nope: I can change the search engine but type nothing. Using Linux, if I've shell opened there they typing is possible so I switch to that shell and after typing something if I return to firefox the keyboard return working perfectly. That's the best case because usually simpler to kill firefox and restart it .. and the keyboard return to work perfectly. Yesterday I had few problems and not have been present, today I'll check better to start in safe mode and use a clean profile ... and as I had disabled in about:config the proton entries, I want to see if enabling that solve the problem (it already solved the complete disappearing of checkbox selections .. ).

Are you able to type in text boxes inside web pages? Do any text boxes in Firefox at all work?
Hi, as told you, I had in about:config all proton entries setted as "false". I've turned all them to "true" and now it seems to work good. I'll continue doing tests.

Thanks, but I'm asking about text boxes inside web pages. I'm trying to determine whether the problem is specifically related to the address bar and search bar or all text inputs in Firefox.
However, if the problem happens only when you disable Proton, then we'll probably close this bug because that's not supported and all kinds of things may break.
I've re-enabled proton and noticed that few things nomore happened (text boxes worked). I disable it again and let you know.

yes, if I set in about:config all Proton entries to false neither text boxes working. I attach to the original post a video I just recorded.

If this bug only occurs with the proton prefs disabled, then I'm going to close it. Disabling the Proton prefs is not a supported configuration, and those prefs will be removed soon.

This happened today, I was using Windows10 and all proton options were on true. Sorry, sometimes the recorded video is bad (never been that way the screen). Anyway, here you can see I can't type anything in the addressbar, while in the search bar something was possible. It was completely locked to change tabs. Killing firefox and re-executing it, it returns to work perfectly.
