1725886 - the search bar and searching via typing into the address bar does not work

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0

Steps to reproduce:

Opened Firefox normally, then went into settings and set my default language to "English UK"

Actual results:

Suddenly, the search bar stopped working and clicking on the gear-wheel showed there were zero search engines to chose from (not even the default of Google, just a grey drop-down arrow, which does nothing).
Also, typing a term into the address bar (where URLs should go) and hitting enter does nothing, it does not search.

Expected results:

Websearch results from DuckDuckGo or Google should have filled my screen.
Nothing happen.

I also tried closing and re-opening Firefox, with exactly the same null result from the search and address bars.

All the search engine options vanished from the settings screen, that grey drop-down arrow does nothing.

Hi Jeff, please could you try this:

• Visit about:config if you can, acknowledge the warning.
• Search for browser.search.log and double-click it to make its value "true".
• Restart Firefox
• Then go to the application menu (the three bars button on the toolbar), select "More Tools", then "Browser Console".
• Right-click and select Select All, then do ctrl-C to copy it.
• Then paste that into an attachment here.

Hi,

I tried replicating on my end, updating language to English UK as mentioned in the report, using windows 10 pro and nightly 93.0a1 (2021-08-17) (64-bit) and had no luck.

(both language used to display menus, message and notifications from Firefox and also the preferred language for displaying pages). Will add myself to cc to follow up after Jeff tries Mark's steps.
