User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020910 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020910 I have Winamp installed and got an MP3-file from a friend over mail. The attachment had the Winamp-icon (which is nice that Mozilla recognizes), but when I double-clicked the attachment - instead of opening the file in Winamp or presenting a dialogue it started to try to play it in the "message body window" - and while still loading it crashed while making a repititous sound.... I've tried this a couple of times between reboots just to make sure I didn't have other things interfering. Win XP + Winamp 3.0 + Mozilla 1.2a Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Get a MP3 as an attachment in a mail 2. Double-click the attachment Actual Results: Mozilla froze and died in the middle of loading the file. Expected Results: Play the file... (although I'd prefer a dialogue - either open in whatever application it is keyed to... or as to save it to disk (like right-click) - but if I have to chose I'd want it to play it in my windows application which I already have set as default)
do you have Quicktime 6 installed and setup for Mozilla ? It may be interfering.

Quicktime 5... But if it's Quicktime that interfers it clearly shows that the user should be given a choice even when double-clicking. Either show a dialogue asking what to do, or go ahead and play with the player associated with Windows (which for me is Winamp, which also shows in the icons for the attachment) - but don't play the resident MIME plugin... I had no idea (still don't) that it was Quicktime.
could be dupe of bug 136761.
No, you have the choice to configure quicktime to not handle .mp3s. Afaik we wil ad this feature to choose with the plugin manager but you get no dialog directly in mail. You can do this : a) configure QT not to handle .mp3s b) install QT6
i forgot : a) you can see the handled plugin extension with Help/About Plugins. b) You can disable plugins in Mailnews.
wfm with win2k and Mozilla 1.3 and quicktime6
