User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0

Steps to reproduce:

Clicked on links on webpages in Firefox desktop and mobile ver. 91

Actual results:

Fail to open webpages when clicking on the links some times. Links can be opened in new tabs.

Examples: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/nsw-covid-19-case-locations

Expected results:

Open links in the same pages

Actual results:

Fail to open webpages when clicking on the links some times. Links can be opened in new tabs.

So nothing happens when you click? Cannot reproduce on desktop.
Does the problem still happen if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? (Safe Mode disables add-ons, extensions and themes, hardware acceleration and some JavaScript stuff in order to exclude some possible reasons for problems.) See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
And does this also happen with a new and empty profile? See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile

Yes, same issue happens in safe mode. I am using Firefox latest version in Mac and Android. Tried in private mode as well but same issue.

You may try below webpage and click on some links on the page: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/rules#rules-and-restrictions-for-your-area

Just put a video screenshot here

Hey Victor,
I tried reproducing this on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 93.0a1 (2021-08-22), beta 92.0b7 and release 91.0.1 but there were no issues for me.

Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Also a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .

Hey Victor,
I tried reproducing this on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 93.0a1 (2021-08-22), beta 92.0b7 and release 91.0.1 but there were no issues for me.

Tried safe mode and fresh new profile already on both mac and android 10. But the issue still exists.

Using Firefox 91.0.2 64bit. Some website links will not open in same window.

  1. URL example: https://www.wickes.co.uk/search?text=bricks

  2. Want to clink on a brick link nothing opens (https://www.wickes.co.uk/Marshalls-Red-Perforated-Engineering-Brick---215-x-100-x-65mm/p/252223)

  3. Cleared cache and cookies etc and turned off hardware acceleration and opened Firefox in safe mode still same problem.

  4. Checked Firefox config settings for opening links and all seem OK.

  5. This is annoying as links for some websites need to keep opening link in new window.

I also had a problem with links on two webpages today, also on Firefox 91.0.2 64 bit. One of them was the Marin County (California) Recorder's Office Services page:

https://www.marincounty.org/depts/ar/divisions/recorder

I could not get the link to "Search Recorder's Official Records" to work at all. I did get it to work about 4-6 weeks ago. I tried today in regular mode and trouble-shooting mode.

The other page was WordPerfect's new-version promotion page (and yes, I still use WordPerfect, and I still like it):

https://www.wordperfect.com/en/product/wordperfect/

I could not get the "Learn More" links to work.

I actually had this problem on a couple of other pages, but I did not pay much attention until it happened repeatedly. I am on the Release Channel, and if Andrei did not have this problem on version 91.0.1, then it looks to my layman's eye that the problem started with version 91.0.2, but that's just a guess. I consider this problem to be serious, because it means I have to open another browser to get my work done. However, I cannot read or write computer code, so I cannot help with the solution.

  1. Today created a new profile using the about:profiles page.
  2. Tested URL https://www.wickes.co.uk/search?text=bricks and clicked on link https://www.wickes.co.uk/Marshalls-Red-Perforated-Engineering-Brick---215-x-100-x-65mm/p/252223 and it opened OK in same Firefox window.
  3. However after that updated some settings in Firefox
    Set custom URL HTML homepage
Send web sites a “Do Not Track” signal that you don’t want to be tracked --> Always
Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed
Do not save Logins and Passwords
History Firefox will --> Never remember history
  4. Restarted Firefox and checked link above again and still cannot click/open link https://www.wickes.co.uk/Marshalls-Red-Perforated-Engineering-Brick---215-x-100-x-65mm/p/252223 or https://www.virginactive.co.uk/login

Please can this be looked into as clicking on a link is essential for a web browser to operate. Would this be fixed in a Firefox update or is it just my profile/settings? All these links used to work on 1-3 previous older versions of Firefox.

Ugraded to ver 92 yesterday and the above problem still exists. Pages cannot be opened in the same tab, but can be opened in a new tab or window.

Setting a component for this issue in order to get the dev team involved.
If you feel it's an incorrect one please feel free to change it to a more appropriate one.

Component: Untriaged → Tabbed Browser

Upgraded to Firefox 93.0 64bit on Windows 10

Bug seems to be fixed. Well Done Team! Able to open links in same window. Checked on previous problem URL. But now able to open product detail pages OK.
https://www.wickes.co.uk/search?text=bricks

Checked above link and clicking on product detail pages and links work opening product detail pages OK. Did not alter any of the settings below.
Set custom URL HTML homepage
Send web sites a “Do Not Track” signal that you don’t want to be tracked --> Always
Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed
Do not save Logins and Passwords
History Firefox will --> Never remember history
