Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0

Steps to reproduce:

There was no intervention on my part that I know of that causes Bookmarks to disappear.

Actual results:

A Bookmark folder disappeared again with many bookmarks in subfolders.

Expected results:

Of course, Bookmarks or their folders should not disappear. When they do, there should be some way to easily view a backup, find the missing Bookmark folder or Bookmark and bring it into the current Bookmark file being used.

I have tried the Firefox Bookmark Backup Reader/Decompressor to display Bookmark backups but blank pages are loaded in Firefox.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Bookmarks & History' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Bookmarks & History

While technically it's possible, our use-case for the backups is to do a full replacement, thus we don't plan to support picking only a specific branch of the bookmarks tree.
That would be feasible for an add-on though, and I feel like an add-on would indeed be the best path forward to satisfy users looking for this feature. Our average user would unlikely use it.
