User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:93.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/93.0
Steps to reproduce:
this started a week or so ago, rebuild my profile and it's the first thing that happens trying to re-set everything up.
press "back" mouse button or "back arrow" next to address bar
Actual results:
something flickers like it is going to load but no matter how many times you click mouse or button back nothing happens. sometimes refreshing the page and hitting back will make it work
Expected results:
go back on click

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Widget: Gtk' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.
This has to be related.
Pressing back and releasing back on mouse seem to each trigger separately.
Doesn't happen anywhere else, didn't seem to happen consistently but it certainly is today. xev
confirms there is only one press and one release being sent.

Can you reproduce it with new profile?
If so, can you try mozregression to find where it broke?

Thanks.

Please read my first post.
If I have time I will try mozregression.

Fission Windows: 7/7 Enabled by experiment
fission.autostart.session: true
bug-1705528-rollout-ongoing-fission-nightly-rollout-clone-nightly-90-100: active
This could be bug 1729545.
Can this bug be fixed by disabling the fission experiment on about:studies and restarting Firefox?
You might also need to disable fission.autostart and/or fission.autostart.session on about:config.
If you run mozregression, please try with fission enabled:
pip3 install mozregression
mozregression --good 2021-01-01 --bad 2021-09-08 --pref fission.autostart:true

gfx.webrender.force-disabled: true
You can remove this pref. It does not exist anymore.
I have added the crashes to "See also" because they seem to relate somehow, so that developers have a chance to see your about:support.
Only see Firefox 100 User-Agent•Active
in about:studies.
Will try to disable the about:config autostart setting though for fission, thanks.
Hm, removed webrender in about config...that was helping another bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1712561 - when did that go away? Crashes started getting horrendous which is why I rebuilt my profile (which didn't help). (note - that bug was specifically about hard freezes, not all of mine are hard freezes)

Set fission autostart to false, restarted, and can still get a double-back with the mouse button. (Once on down, once on up)

It seems that this has been partially fixed. Have not noticed mouse back down+up both giving a back action. Not sure if https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1729545 has noticed anything.

Still happens ocassionally. May be related to pressing "mouse back" too fast?

(In reply to zlice from comment #9)
And yes, that bug looks like a dupe for sure.
(I think this was regarding bug 1729545.)
Tentatively marking as a duplicate of bug 1729545, based on this^ (I agree it looks like a duplicate).
That bug was recently fixed in Nightly 98 (and should be included in beta 98 as well, which I think went out this week).
If you can reproduce in latest Nightly (from February 2nd or later), or in Firefox 98 beta ( https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/#beta ), please reopen. Thanks!
