Steps to reproduce:
Within the quickfilter there is the possibility to list all emails with one – or more – certain tag.
I think we should reduce user friction here by preselecting the current tag of the email, if at least one is set, when activating the tag filter.
Right now you have to select the tag manually, which is time consuming, if you do it many times a day.

That would be very disruptive and I think usually not what you want. If you have a message open there is no need to filter for it.
Interesting standpoint. Hard to reason for me, but it looks like there is some misunderstanding here.
Let me reiterate what I want to achieve:
I get an email. Now I need to look up other emails, because I need to cross check or whatever.
Now, I want only those emails to show, which are from the same sender, or have the same tag.
I can now click on "Tags" in the quickfilter, but I have to select again which tag.
This is cumbersome. So I wouldn't assume making this workflow easier is disruptive in any way.
If you have a message open there is no need to filter for it.
To be honest I think that this view is wrong, as outlined above.
Also there is missing a way to quickly get rid of all quick filters. Well yeah, you could disable the quick filter, and enable it again, which clears all filters, but man, this is a weird design for sure.

I'm not saying the actual use case is invalid, but changing the quick filter the way you want would be odd.
I think you basically want Pivot - see https://github.com/asutherland/qfb-pivot (now defunct)
Yes, exactly! That would be extremely helpful, but I can see that changing the current way would be probably breaking other users workflow.
I'd still vote for a system that makes it easier to filter in the way I described. Its one of the tasks I do daily hundreds of times.
