Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:92.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/92.0
Firefox for Android

Steps to reproduce:

Reformatted my machine, and Firefox told me to setup sync, which I did.

Actual results:

I got multiple email saying for me to try Sync even though I was already using it. I replied to the email to suggest maybe checking to see if the user is already using Sync before sending onboarding emails, but then got:

<accounts@firefox.com>: host smtp1.mdc1.mozilla.com[63.245.208.103] said: 550
5.1.1 <accounts@firefox.com>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in
virtual alias table (in reply to RCPT TO command)

Expected results:

If accounts@ was an actual account, that should have gone somewhere. If it's not actually an inbox, maybe send the email from something like a no-reply@ email address.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Cloud Services::Server: Firefox Accounts' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Server: Firefox Accounts
Product: Firefox → Cloud Services

Thanks for the note. I do think sending from no-reply@ is a good idea but at this point I don't think we can change the email since so many people have added it to their addressbooks to help bypass spam filters so I'm going to wontfix this.
