Bug 1731794 asks the SearchService to load resource://nimbus/ExperimentAPI.jsm, which isn't shipped with Thunderbird and causes error messages. I chatted with the Nimbus team and we agreed that the ship Nimbus in Thunderbird was the better option in the longer term - this is likely to be used in more places as time goes on, and having to put exclusions everywhere would likely get messy.
