I have disabled updates from 68.x because I have Google accounts (E-mail, Contacts and Calendar) and upgrading to 78 broke all my accounts resulting in a huge effort to revert to 68.x. Thunderbird does such a poor job of warning users about NUC (non-upwards compatible) changes that it will now take a very drastic trigger (including 100% guaranteed support of my addons/capabilities) to ever get me to upgrade to a newer version. "Several times burned; forever shy."

I don't know about version 78, but version 91 your steps work for me
