Steps to reproduce:
Currently there are three main options for archiving:
- one folder
- per year
- per month
I'd like to see an option to archive "by tag".
I know that this is a bit tricky, since users can apply more than one tag.
My usecase is that I'd like to keep using Thunderbird in a business context.
There it is absolutely crucial to keep emails together which are belonging to the same project, e.g.

This can be achieved, but somewhat complicated: set up a TagX and a filter to do whatever you want it to do with TagX emails. Tick the option to run the filter on Archive. Done.
But then on the other hand there is a much bigger issue: Archiving will strip all tags, so there is a lot of double work there.
I would really prefer a "native" method then this argy-bargy.
Archiving is great, because its so convenient. If you need to set up a lot of stuff and if this stuff then doesn't even work... well thats the opposite of convenience.
