For those who have regular correspondents in multiple languages, Thunderbird should offer the feature to set a composition language on a per-user basis similar to the "prefers mail as" option in the address book. This would allow for appropriate details of text entry and spell checking to be.

Failing the ability to set such on a per recipient basis from the address book, the identity for the account should be enhanced so an identity can have a specified language associated. So identity one will default to the installation language, but identities can have specific languages set as part of the identity setup. So changing the from: identity would set up the composition environment in the correct language, including RTL or LTR and dictionary among other tings.

I think bug 1731203 is a better and easier (technically and for the user) solution.

Perhaps, but I agree with BenB on this occasion the user needs a way to force the issue.

My preference would be to force multiple dictionaries for multiple languages, I am supposed to us US_English for the Mozilla project. Generally I use Australian English and it would be nice to be able to hook in a legal or Latin dictionary as wellall before I address anything.

Each person has slightly different needs and wants. It is probably 10 years since I first encountered folk in the US asking for US_English and Spanish language dictionaries combined. I am guessing others would want Cajun to localise within their country. In my community we have many migrants who write in English and another language depending on whom they are corresponding. It should not be an issue to set up the correct language header for each email, as soon as it is addressed the language should be detected.(or not is the absence of a specific pref)

Depends on: 1731203

See bug 1020181. There are a few add-ons that provide that sort of function.
