Details

(Whiteboard: [support])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.12; rv:93.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/93.0

Steps to reproduce:

Compose new message
Insert image inline
Click menu: Format Image Properties

Actual results:

Always defaults to use alternate text which creates an alert message when closing properties.

Expected results:

Allow an option to default setting to "Don't user alternate text"

If you choose "don't use alternative text" (or not) it will remember your last choice.

It does not remember this setting as of latest update, 91.2.0. This caused major confusion for my 89 year old mother-in-law who adds multiple images inline and resizes them. Each time she went to image properties the setting was defaulted to use alternate text. She now has to click on don't use all text every time or she gets alert about not having text.

Maybe this update broke something with this setting?

This was not a problem before the 91.2.0 update. She never had to select this before as it was always set to don't use alt text.

Also works for me using 91.2.0.

Maybe she has an extension interfering.

Have her try Help > Troubleshoot Mode.

I tried "Help > Troubleshoot Mode" (restarted Thunderbird in troubleshooting mode). Same problem.
Compose new message. Add image inline. Go to image properties and check the box for "Don't use alt text". Add another image inline and go to properties and the setting is set to use alt text. We have to check the box again for "Don't use alt text" for the 2nd image. Add a 3rd image and go to properties and it defaults to use alt text again.

This was never a problem until Thunderbird was updated to 91.2.0 Sunday night.

Anything else to try?

I can't reproduce with 91.2.0 on Windows 10 or Fedora Linux.

Suggest you check the Thunderbird Support site for your issue, or post there.
