User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:93.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/93.0

Steps to reproduce:

Creating new ticket from here:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=769118#c96

I just added to Thunderbird a new calendar from my corporate Google account with recurring events already created in this calendar.

Actual results:

Reminder window about recurring event (current or past) appears and I can't dismiss it. Reminder window closes but immediately appears again with new notification sound.
Unchecking "Show missed reminders for writable calendars" fixes it, but I don't want to keep this option disabled.

Expected results:

Reminder window about specific occurrence of this event should disappear and not appear again after I press "dismiss".

Calendar URL (default): https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/myusername%40myorganizationname.com/events/

Thunderbird version: 91.1.0-1 in Fedora Linux 35 x86_64

Might be related:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1150571
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1454901

I have exactly the same issue with very similar setup:
thunderbird-librnp-rnp-91.2.0-1.fc34.x86_64
thunderbird-91.2.0-1.fc34.x86_64
Also corporate Google calendar. The issue wasn't there anymore and reappeared, I hadn't time yet to analyze as travneff did, but it doesn't impact all calendar entries, only some of them.

I don't have a corporate Google calendar but will test on Fedora 34 with their build of Thunderbird 91.2.0 over the next couple of days.

Component: Untriaged → Alarms
OS: Unspecified → Linux
Product: Thunderbird → Calendar
Hardware: Unspecified → x86_64

Just in case: I am not organizer of the problematic event in calendar. I was invited to this event by another person.
Also can't delete it (the specific occurrence) from Thunderbird. Can do it from Google web calendar.

Please tell if we can gather any debug logs while trying to dismiss/delete.

I also don't get invites, and couldn't reproduce in my weeks testing with recurring events with a daily reminder using Thunderbird 91.2.0 from Fedora on Fedora 34.

Almost same as travneff:

I just added to Thunderbird a new calendar from my corporate Google account with recurring events already created in this calendar.

Actual results:

Reminder window about recurring event (current or past) appears and I can't dismiss it. Reminder window closes but immediately appears again with new notification sound.
Unchecking "Show reminders"
At first, I thought it was just previous reoccurring events but is happening even with newly created one-time events also.

Expected results:

Reminder window about specific occurrence of this event should disappear and not appear again after I press "dismiss".

TB 91.3.2 (64-bit)

Same here with Thunderbird 91.4.1 (from Debian Unstable).

I can't dismiss a recurring Google Agenda event I've been invited to on a corporate account. The reminder I get is for the last occurence (15/12/2021).

I unsuccessfully tried to :

  • disable notifications on this event from Thunderbird
  • disable notifications on this event from Google Agenda
  • unsubscribe the calendar, restart Thunderbird, then subscribe again to the calendar.

This is getting very annoying, and even if I leave the notification window in the background, it periodically goes back on the front, switch to the virtual desktop if I'm on another one, and gets the focus.

I remember having this issue a few months ago, but can't remember what kind of sorcery I used to get rid of this evil immortal reminder window.

Same problem here with Thunderbird 91.4.1 (64 bits) in ArchLinux.

One workaround that I found was to set the calendar as "Read only".
In order to do that: right-click on the calendar > Properties > Check the box "Read only" > Click on "OK".

You can now click on "Disable" when a notification pops up. However, you won't be able to delay the notifications anymore.
And if you set your calendar as read only, then disable a notification, then unset the calendar as read only, the problem will be back with the notifications you disabled as soon as a new notifications will pop up.

Same problem here, can't dismiss a reminder that is from a recurring event I was invited by other. Any quick fix? It's annoying.

Same here, shared Google calendars, connected via https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/<id>/events/

Thunderbird 91.8.0 (64 bit) in flatpak form from FlatHub.

I'm having the same issue on Thunderbird 91.9.1 (64-bit) running on Ubuntu 20.04 (deb) version. What other info do you need? Kindly let me know which logs you need.

Since the user you requested info from hasn't replied in 3 months and the bug is evidently still present, can you please tell me what info you need? I can try and provide the required details.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/91.11.0

I can confirm the issue occurs when invited to a recurring event by another user. I have been working with the "Show missed reminders for writable calendars" setting turned off for years now (due to this bug) and regularly, unsurprisingly, miss reminders as a result.

For me a better workaround (which I will use moving forward until this bug is fixed or until I get fed up and see if Outlook has got any better at handling Google accounts) is to recreate the repeating event and delete the 3rd party events. Clearly this is not a great workaround but since most of my repeating events come from my wife it's acceptable for me and better that I don't miss important work-related reminders!

If there's anything I can do to help troubleshoot this issue please do let me know as I suspect there's too much I'd miss about Thunderbird that would make switching back to Outlook a non-starter.

It seems my workaround doesn't work since I cannot dismiss some of the events that I have recreated in my own calendar. Furthermore I don't believe the problem is limited to recurring events.

This appears to have been fixed already. For those who are still troubled by it, you can download the new version of Thunderbird from the website. However, this version is not offered as an update from the older versions. I don't know why this is the case, but it is what it is. Downloading the new version fixed the bug for me and it doesn't recur.

Well, this problem - Calendar reminders won't be dismissed - is still present for me, in Tunderbird 102.1.0 ubuntu-snap-build 1.0.

Does this issue still reproduce for anyone when using version 102.6.1 or newer?
If yes, please provide additional details (type of calendar, etc).
Thanks

Same problem. Updated to 102.7.2 and first things coming up when opening the client are the 2 old reminders, still. When I leave the client on for half day, I'll get a slew of reminders repeat reminders of the same two events. Sometimes the client gets into a hissy fit and I have to shut it down using the task manager. VERY annoying. Running on Win 10 Pro 19044.2486 build. Whiteboard: [closeme 2023-01-20]

Received 98 reminders of an event but not able to delete any of them. Finally changed or deleted the event occurrence in Google Calendar and the reminders cleared.

Blocks: 1314185

I have the same issue. 115.7.0 32-bit

It appears for events created a long time ago.

Editing the event and pressing "Today" above the calendar gives a very erroneous calendar date.
Event created 20210802, calendar displayed for Today is May 2022
Repeated Today presses advance the calendar three months until next month is shown.

After editing, pressing Reminder Dismiss goes to that date in the Calendar pane.

Going back to the Reminder Pane for the Third Time, Dismiss makes it go away.

Kinda funny this bug ridden release is called supernova - gets really bright and then collapses into an invisible black hole or neutron star

AND the popup that appears and locks up the Calendar appears at Desktop 0,0 - NOT monitor 0,0

Not all of us use a laptop, or tablet or phone.
