When I click in the URL bar now, I get a disk hit. I have no idea why, but I
wonder if it could be similar to bug 14486.
kipp, could you do a quick purify check to make sure that we're not trying to
render garbage text?

This looks like the XIF debug output, which is getting written on Mac now.
Reassign to akkana to turn it off.

I turned it off on Friday. This disk hit should no longer happen unless you
explicitly change the code to define DEBUG_XIF.

With the Nov 16th Mac build, this problem appears to be fixed.
Severity: normal → major
Status: VERIFIED → REOPENED
OS: Mac System 8.5 → Windows 98
Hardware: Macintosh → PC
Summary: Clicking in the url bar causes a disk hit → Clicking in text entry lines (& the URL bar) causes a disk hit
This bug is yet manifest upon the MICROSOFT WINDOWS 98 platform, where the
pixel-regeneration effects visible upon clicking the bar are as slow and
detailed as an aurora borealis.
At the cited URL, a pair of single-line text entry fields (on the left sidebar)
also exhibit this flaw.

I don't understand the comment. You seem to be saying that there are slow or
strange redraw behaviors when clicking on a text field. You don't say anything
about a disk hit. Please explain why you think the disk is being hit, or else
file a new bug since the symptoms you describe sound like a completely different
problem from this bug.

Closing again. I think you were seeing another bug.

The 2000010508 build no longer troubles the disk to spin, but the strange,
somewhat slow repaint behavior yet occurs when clicking the URL bar - on the
user's first instance of doing so, but not upon later clicks.
akkana@netscape.com - doubtless your console is considerably faster and
better-endowed than my own.
Text fields within, par exemple, this Bugzilla report behave TRULY strangely
when clicked upon - but that is likely a seperate flaw.

Then you should file a new bug on the paint behavior. This bug is on disk hits.
See the summary line.
