User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:93.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/93.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Visit https://codepen.io/chriscoyier/full/pMRgwW or https://ppg.report/33.448,-112.074
  2. Scroll the container on macOS Monterey with an Apple Magic Touchpad, or Macbook touchpad.

Actual results:

See that during momentum scrolling, the scroll suddenly stops without completing the moment scrolling ~60% of the time.

Expected results:

Momentum scrolling continues through entire momentum smoothly.

This worked fine in Big Sur.

Hi Alex!
I was unable to reproduce this issue on latest Nightly version 95.0a1 (2021-10-27)(64-bit) on macOS 10.15.
Could you please try to reproduce it on latest Nightly and tell us your input? You can download it from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/.
Also, if it is possible for you, try to add a screen recording showing the problem. It might help us to a lot.
Thanks!

Absolutely, here's the attachment.

I'm "scrolling" with a 2-finger swipe gesture on the trackpad. As you can see, most of the time it abruptly stops. This didn't happen in Bug Sur.

Hi,

I was able to reproduce this issue on MacOS 12.0.1 (Monterey) using Firefox 94.0 and Firefox Nightly 96.0a1.
The issue does not occur on MacOS Big Sur or Catalina.

I'm setting a component in order to involve the development team in reviewing this issue.

Thank you for reporting!

For doc writers: this is being noted in browser-compat-data. When this gets fixed, the note ought to be updated to reflect that.

Hi ! I got the same issue with MacOS Monterey with magic tracktap on mac mini M1. The scroll-snap is jerky and ineffective most time ; there's no scroll momentum. Scroll momentum is back when I remove scroll-snap feature. The problem is only in firefox (not chrome or safari) and not under MacBook pro High Sierra with FF96 or mini'09+magictrackpad

Does someone know when this bug appear ?
With MacOS Monterey ? Someone tested recursively previous FF versions ?
On the duplicate bug report someone seems to have the same on Windows.

Given that this is Monterey specific, I'd suppose this is a dup of bug 1749352.
