Closing the session clears the list of Saved Files.

Details
Steps to reproduce:
Opened "Saved Files", Ctrl+J
Actual results:
It shows an empty Saved Files list every time the session in Thunderbird starts.
Expected results:
It should have showed the Saved Files list up to the previous reset, or to the moment of the installation of Thunderbird if no resets have ever been performed previously (my case). As it happens in Firefox.
Moreover, the "Clear List" button has little reason to stay there in the present setup, as closing the client clears the list anyway; that’s why I thought this is a bug.
Thanks.

Did this behave in version 78?
I think so, before the big change when most of my add ons disappeared, everything was working (sorry, I am just an end user and I didn’t check the version).
Talking about addons, I already tried to restart T-Bird with addons disabled, but no joy unfortunately.

I confirm it doesn't retain the list in 91.3 and 95 beta. I don't know whether it happens with version 78.
Firefox 94 keeps the list

TB never kept the list.

Yes, I believe the list simply is not persisted at all.

Well, for sure now it doesn’t, but it used to – though.
I remember saving files and being able to access them the next day (or week).
In all honestly I feel it doesn’t make any sense clearing constantly that list: why is there a button to clear it at all, if closing the session the files disappear automatically anyway?
Why the parent browser retains it?
I
still believe it’s a bug for these reasons above.

Yes, I believe the list simply is not persisted at all.
What would be needed to persist it?
I think we should persist it cross-session just like FF does.
Being able to get at yesterday's or last week's saved files even if TB was closed in between looks like an advantage.
We should probably wait for Bug 1351219 to land first so that the list gets some visibility so that it doesn't grow endlessly without having a chance to be seen. Or perhaps we could auto-clear items older than 6 months or so, and indicate that in a label text.

Needless to say it, I agree with you. Thanks.

As this seems to have very low priority, is there a key in Config Editor I can tweak to enable the cross-session persistence of downloaded files?
Thank you in advance.

No
So, can I add one myself?
“In rare cases, you may need to add a new preference.” (from the support page regarding Config Editor), and this sounds like one of those cases.
Or, would an add-on of some sort fix this inconvenient-to-me behavior?

No preference exists for this, and config editor onlly allows you to add a setting for an existing preference not *create an entirely new preference
-
I suspect no.
