Build ID: 20021010 on Win2k (trunk). Steps to reproduce: 1. Load http://cisco.netacad.net/public/news/index.html 2. See incorrect layout, Mozilla uses strict compliance doctype, 3. Look at the doctype used: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-/W3C/DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional/EN"> Look at the doctype used on another page: http://cisco.netacad.net/ <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> which enables quirks mode. The first doctype is not listed here and I don't fully understand why it'd enable strict compliance mode: http://www.mozilla.org/docs/web-developer/quirks/doctypes.html I don't know if this is a parser bug or a Tech Evangelism issue. Hence the reason I'm choosing Mozilla component first (will move to TE if this is indeed TE). Similar TE bug reports: bug 146274, bug 160481. If TE, contact is academyconnection_public@external.cisco.com (and I will contact them as I'm working at Cisco).
From the URL you posted: Full Standards Mode The following trigger full standards mode: ... * Any unknown doctype That DOCTYPE is not a legal HTML doctype. It's really an unknown doctype. It is close to an HTML doctype, but not exactly. You should simply get whoever runs that page to fix their doctype. It's very likely a typo, anyway.
hm, i've seen a somewhat similar bug to this, there it was that instead of //EN //DE (for german) was set and Mozilla enabled standard mode for rendering the page.
Christopher, thanks for your remarks, is there a list of doctypes somewhere or do we sometimes add a particular doctype to the list of recognized valid doctypes by Mozilla parser ? Moving this to TE anyway...
