Steps to reproduce:

Auto-update to 91.3.1 on Mac OS 11.6.1
After restart Thunderbird appears in light theme (as it should)
When answering to an email or when starting a new one, the background in the compose window is black/dark instead of white/light

Actual results:

When answering to an email or when starting a new one, the background in the compose window is black/dark (instead of white/light)

Expected results:

background in the compose window should be white/light

Status: UNCONFIRMED → RESOLVED

I wish we had this natively on the dark theme.
@Richard Marti, could you make this possible on the dark theme?
The dark theme is not totally so when the compose window stays with a white background.
It’s a pity people have to use an addon (namely Dark Reader) to fix what should have been by design.
Even Ms Outlook has a real dark theme with a dark background compose window.

Actually, it’s the email reader window or panel that is white instead of dark !

You could check the Dark Reader extension.

Yes, that’s the problem: the dark theme is not totally finished and one needs a fix, namely the Dark Reader addon.
Could you mend this as you are repairing the dark theme anyway.
