I don't expect a resolution. I'm filing this mainly so it's on record, and to track it through backtrace.

I had been away from the computer for an hour. TB had crashed. The last thing I remember doing was deleting a few message. Earlier in the day it was using <500mb, and I haven't been noticing excessive memory.
