(Whiteboard: qa-not-reproducible)

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:94.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/94.0
Firefox for Android

Steps to reproduce:

Leave several tabs open for a substantial time

Actual results:

Using a hotspot or smartphone using phone carrier data is wasted due to interactive ads, videos, music, etc. when webpages are left open. When doing research I leave multiple Firefox tabs open (for weeks) while my laptop or smartphone are on carrier data. I have "cut the cable" (several years ago) as LTE 4+ and 5G can provide speed comparable to cable.

Expected results:

Instead of letting ads consume the monthly carrier limits of 50GB but slows down after 22 GB and even less after 50GB, Firefox needs to implement a "data saver" mode on both laptop and smartphones. Smartphones already have a data saver mode where background tasks are put to sleep.

In past versions of FF there was an option to only allow one thread open at a time. Now a thread is open for each tab. I routinely have 20+ tabs open.

I would propose that if a user brings up the "Library" tab that FF put all threads to sleep until the user bring them to the forefront. (I have the Library tab as my default first tab (left) so I can easily access my saved pages.)

Or, create a data saver mode that puts the least used tabs to sleep if they are not the active tab.

Re-reading the OP this actually looks more like a bug for Desktop than Android.
