This problem started to occur after the problem described in bug 174517 and may
be related to that.
I have filtering on and the preview panel is off. So at the left side, I see the
folders, including those with fresh mail. So I select e.g. the mozilla mail
folder with two fresh mails. These are then listed in the listpane at the right
side. I want to press Alt_v w m to open the preview panel. However, when I press
Alt (or Alt_v, I'm not sure), all unread mails disappear from the mail list at
the right. This also happens with the Trash folder (I filter 'expected' mail
into dedicated folders, and filter the rest into Trash). Only the new mail
disappear, read mail stays. I have copied the affected folder files and viewed
the copy with mutt: all mail is there.
This is real bad! I can not use mozilla to read mail anymore!
Since this started happening, it happened everytime I wanted th type Alt_v as
described above. Obviously, I feel a bit reluctant to do a lot of tests! :-)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. read new mail and have it filtered in a two panel setup (no preview panel)
2. select folder with unread mail, and verify the unread mails being listed in
the mail list panel
3. press Alt(_v) and watch the unread mails disappear from the mail list panel

Actual Results:  
mail can not be read: it is not listed and thus can not be selected


Well this started happening after failing to install the default US English
language packs (see bug 1745417)

Further investigation indicates that both Alt keys and the right Windows key are
mapped to some kind of delete function (note that these keys work fine in the
navigator and in all other apps and windows) When I select a folder with the
mouse, and open the preview panel with the mouse, I can read all mails. When I
select a folder with only read mails with the mouse, and press the Alt key, a
popup panel asks 'Are you sure you want to move the selected folder into the
Trash?' This still does not explain to me why unread mail simply disappears from
the list, even without selecting it. Surely, there is no function that deletes
unread mail from a folder when selecting the folder and hitting this kind-of
delete function...

All keys act as delete key: the alphanumeric keys, the tab key, the cursor keys
etc...

Whenever I touch the keyboard while the mail client has the focus, I loose a
message from the message list, or have to abort deleting a folder.

Overzealous spam control ?-(
