Scroll down, and about 1/3 of the way (depending on screen size), the window inexplicable goes blank (all white, no content).

100% reproducible

Problem doesn't happen in troubleshooting mode. Hmm.

OK after restarting Firefox normally, it no longer happens - so some sort of transient state Firefox gets into until restarted. To reproduce prior to restarting Firefox, I had tried creating a new tab and the problem did still happen there.

Component: General → Panning and Zooming
Product: Firefox → Core

Does the vertical scrollbar disappear as well, or does it remain and it's just scrolling blank content?

If you reproduce it again, it would be interesting to open the Developer Tools (Ctrl+Shift+I) and look for clues there, for example:

  • In the Inspector tab, are the page's content elements still there?
  • In the Console tab, are there any errors or warnings? (If it's reproducible reliably, you can also try opening the devtools before reproducing the issue, and looking specifically for errors and warnings that appear at the time the content goes blank.)
  • In the Network tab, do you see the page making new requests? (If you can still scroll the page, you can try things like scrolling to the bottom or the top which seems to trigger network requests when the page is working.)
Severity: -- → S3
Priority: -- → P3

Vertical scrollbar disappears.

Console shows this at the time of the vanishing act:

(In reply to Chris Murphy from comment #6)

Network tab does show network requests as I scroll and two appear in red at the time the content vanishes - attaching screenshot.

"Blocked by uBlock Origin" is potentially relevant.

I've experienced misbehaviour such as a site going blank after an interaction before, that went away by disabling uBlock Origin for that site.

Does the issue reproduce with uBlock Origin disabled?

It does not reproduce when uBlock Origin is disabled for this one site. Sample size of 1 :)

when uBlock Origin is disabled

I can't reproduce with uBO enabled when using default settings/lists.

Did you enable more filter lists beyond the default ones? Do you have custom filters/rules?

Somebody posted a similar-sounding issue on uBO's issue tracker (also for a recipes site), but the person ended up saying that customization to Firefox Enhanced Tracking protection was causing the issue without further details unfortunately.

Did you enable more filter lists beyond the default ones?
No
Do you have custom filters/rules?
No

I also can't immediately reproduce if I merely restart Firefox with uBO enabled. There's some additional state change that happens as a pre-condition to trigger the issue in addition to (I guess) uBO blocking something.

Safe to say the issue is not related to scrolling, but rather something networking-related and possibly an issue with the uBO addon.
