User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:95.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/95.0

Steps to reproduce:

  • Have more than 4 tabs open
  • Click the third or fourth tab (The others have never produced this bug)

Actual results:

When clicking the third or sometimes the fourth tab to switch tab, nothing happens. By clicking multiple times, eventually the tab may switch. For some reason it's always the third or the fourth, never the others. It's not only switching that doesn't work, but trying to move the tab also doesn't work... It's as if it was an empty space. Even if it can't be clicked on, it is possible to move another tab over it and it will be moved to the other side as it should.

Expected results:

The exposed tab should switch to the one being clicked. If trying to drag the bugged tab somewhere else then it should be dragged when you hold left click and move it.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Tabbed Browser' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Tabbed Browser

I've filled this bug report after seeing this bug happening many times within the past few months. After having filled the report I've done more testing and noticed something. If by trying to drag the bugged tab again and again until it works, the tab begins to work again once it is away from the position where it was, and the tab that takes its place becomes bugged. So I assume that the tab is not the problem, rather it is the tab index.

Hi,

I have tested your issue on latest FF release 95, Beta 96 and latest Nightly build 97.0a1 (2021-12-29) and could not reproduce it using Windows 7.
If the issue is still reproducible on your end, can you please retest this using latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8) to eliminate the potential causes.

Thanks for the report.

Hi, this is going to be very unrewarding as a reply, but this bug has never been so consistent as to happen reliably. However, since a week it has not happened once, not in the nightly build, nor the latest version of the standard Firefox.
