Changes made to the pref offline.news.download.days through the prefs UI don't stick and are not written to prefs.js file. The other download news prefs stick and write to prefs.js, including the parent (to this bug's subject) pref offline.news.download.use_days. Note: pref migration does indeed migrate the news download prefs with correct values, including the number of days. After migration, the prefs UI shows the proper enabled/disabled state but does not show the number of days value. 1. Launch messenger. 2. Edit|Prefs|Offline|Download. 3. Enable/checkmark "Download by Date" and select the second radio button option "since <N> days ago". Put a number value in the edit box for N days value. Confirm OK. 4. Go back to the download prefs and check the values you just changed. Result: N days value didn't stick in prefs UI. 5. Check the prefs.js file and note the offline.news.download.days value was not changed.
I'd wait on this until we make a decision on whether offline is "in" for seamonkey
