Seems like the front end is the same for news and mail, right? Can we just make
this a generic filter FE bug?
Seth requested this and a BE bug for his news part. I don't care myself, as
long as its clear what portions get fixed/implemented when it comes time to
verify.

I think alecf is the owner / author of the filter UI dialog. re-assign to him.

Since seth put me in both the CC and the Assigned To, I'm assuming he meant to
put himself in the CC :)

an update: between bienvenu and I, we have a scriptable validity table, which
means now have the data I need to set up the dropdown lists for attributes
(subject, sender, etc) and operators (contains, is less than, etc)
this means that I should have a read-only UI by the 27th or 28th.

well, it's taking a little longer than expected, but I hope to have read-only
filters by 5/2 or 5/3.
Made lots of progress today and finished up the behavioral aspects of the search
widgets, now I need to reflect the current wizard's search terms into the UI.

a major step forward: you can now view your filters in the filter editor. The
only thing that is not updated is the action for the filter. It's a little slow
right now but I know why (I stuck some quick hacks so we at least have something
visible on the screen for everyone to see!)

ok, updated progress:
you can now edit text-based filter terms, like sender and subject, and it will
save them for the current session. selectable attributes like message status or
priority is still a little flakey.
they don't save to disk yet, working on that.

the last of this feature came in a day late. I have all the changes to make this
dialog "feature complete" ready to checkin, sans a number of bugs.
I'd like to check in what I have - the only changes are in the filter code
itself, nowhere else.

ok, I declare this "feature complete" - any further problems (and there are
lots) are bugs.
