User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:96.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/96.0
Steps to reproduce:
Have a gmail account configured in Thunderbird.
click on the "Inbox" in thunderbird folders section, or
click on a message in the message list, if "Inbox" is already selected.
Actual results:
Thunderbird freezes and displays "not responding" in the window's title bar for about 5 to 10 seconds (time varies) and then executes the desired step
Expected results:
Thunderbird does not freeze and execute the desired step immediately. (As it does with all the other non-gmail accounts which are configured)

bossm,
Does the problem go away if you have started Windows in safe mode??
Hi Wayne,
I did not get a chance yet to start Windows in safe mode and retry, however, I made the following observation and thought it might help:
The problem seems to occur only if Windows runs in a virtual machine.
The setup is as follows:
- a host operating system (Windows 10)
- VMWare Player runs on host.
- Guest operating System (Windows 10) runs in VMWare Player
- Thunderbird Portable (portableapps.com) runs on the Guest operating system -> The described problem occurs.
- The same Thunderbird Portable runs on the host Operating System directly -> The problem does not occur.
I tend to believe that the problem has something to do with gmail communication encryption. Maybe it is due to lack of some hardware support options in the VM?
I'll see into trying the safe mode, too.
Thanks
Markus
