User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/97.0.4692.71 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Just upgraded to 96.0.2 on amd64 Linux and after restart multiple tabs have crashed. Clicking on "Restore this tab" or "Restore all crashed tabs" fails to restore tabs. Also cannot navigate backwards to restore tabs. This is a disaster as it appears I've lost many tabs in multiple windows.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:96.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/96.0
Linux 5.14.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.14.9-2~bpo11+1 (2021-10-10)

Actual results:

Multiple tabs failed to restore when restarting Firefox after upgrading to 96.0.2. Tabs cannot be restored by clicking "Restore this tab"

Expected results:

All tabs should have been restored when restarting Firefox after 96.0.2 upgrade.

I have browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand set to false as I do not like unloaded tabs after Firefox being restarted. browser.sessionstore.restore_tabs_lazily is also set to false. I noticed a couple releases prior that Firefox again appeared to be loading tabs lazily despite my preference settings, so it was apparent that the devs were tweaking something and not respecting user's choices. In order to get the tabs to load I had to Ctrl+PgDn to select each tab which would then cause them to fully load.

Now however I have dozens of crashed tabs which will not reload which represents a serious data loss to me. I'm afraid to restart Firefox and risk permanently losing the URLs of the crashed tabs.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Session Restore' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Session Restore

Upon browser restart it appears to load the tabs in order, two tabs at a time. If one of the tabs has a problem loading - perhaps the site is temporarily unavailable - the reloading of tabs seems to get stuck or hang.

I closed a couple problematic tabs and restarted Firefox and it was able to load all the tabs, including the previous crashed ones which would not restore before. So it appears that a solution is restart Firefox.

Hi pica,
I was unable to reproduce this crash. Please, can you provide your about:support information in order to further investigate it? Just type 'about:support' in address bar, in order to get 'Troubleshooting Information' page. Please, refer to attached screenshot 'aboutsupport.jpg' to see it. After reaching it, click on 'Copy text to clipboard' and paste into a comment here in Bugzilla.

Also, follow the steps on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-troubleshoot-prevent-and-get-help#w_get-help-fixing-this-crash and provide your Report ID here.

I've assigned a component in order to get the dev team involved, but if it's not relevant,
'Firefox-Session Restore' team, please feel free to change the component if this is not the appropriate one.
Thanks!

Apologies for late response here.

As Jeronimo, I cannot reproduce this on latest release version Firefox 107.
Pica, are you still experience multiple tabs crashes on latest Firefox release 107.0 (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/)? If yes, could you please provide some more info.
