The spacebar has, since Netscape Navigator, been a navigational shortcut for
page down. Recent builds of typeahead have changed this - hitting space now
searches for links that contain a space.

I'm not entirely sure that's a useful search for typeahead, and it breaks
existing behaviour. I love type ahead, but pressing space to scroll is hardwired
in my brain.

This is on Build 2002101608
Space bar is only part of the search if it's not the first character --
otherwise it pages down as always.

If you're in the middle of a search, adding space to the seach string can be
vital to finding the right thing.

If you really want to page down, you can cancel out of typeaheadind by scrolling
with any other key than space, or by pressing Escape, or by waiting for the timeout.

Changing summary, to accurately reflect problem.

However, I disagree that this is wrong -- I like being able to search for space
in the middle of something. Space at the beginning still pages down.
Summary: typeahead now responds to " " (space) - space is a navigational keypress → space does not pagedown while searching using typeaheadfind
No: the bug I'm notifying is that space *does* activate a search as the first
character in a typeahead search. This is new behaviour that I see with this
build 20021016108. I have no problem with space working as part of the search
string within a typeahead. I believe having space work as an initiator of
typeahead is wrong.
Thanks, I wasn't clear on that. Does the current summary accurately reflect the bug?

I can't confirm this bug on my win2k build. Can anyone else see this bug? Is it
100% reproducable? Is it only on Linux?
Summary: space does not pagedown while searching using typeaheadfind → space does not pagedown, initiating typeaheadfind instead
Works for me on mandrake 9.0, using nightly 2002102605. Spacebar just scrolls
the page. I even tried to construct a page containing a link whose first
character was a space, but no joy.

Dan, could you try a new mozilla nightly and see if the problem is still occurring?
Works for me, 2002102608 on WinME.
still happening on the Debian mozilla-browser-snapshot build
20021024.09 - I'll report it as a bug on their system, see if the problem lies
there.
yep, I see this too in Debian's mozilla-snapshot (2002102815), but not current
Mozilla trunk. Interestingly, not in Debian's galeon-snapshot either. Marking
invalid, please reopen if you can reproduce the problem in a Mozilla build.
