STR

  1. On my Windows OS, I have set a certain file viewer as default to open .jpg files (IrfanView). Double-clicking jpgs in Explorer starts that viewer correctly. The previous Windows default app was called 'Fotos'.
  2. I'm not sure which steps I did to get into the situation below, but the UI state in prefs looks wrong and should never happen (see screenshot and actual result).
  3. Check both columns of the default action for JPEG Images in ≡ > Preferences > General > Files & Attachments
  4. Double-click on jpg attachment in message reader to verify which action will occur

Actual (see screenshot)

  • after step 2: The UI is of the default action for JPEG Images is in a wrong and confusing state:
    • Action column shows Use Photos (default) in the UI, but uses IrfanView nevertheless (wrong and confusing, this bug)
    • IrfanView icon shown in JPEG Images Content type column (which looks correct)
  • after step 3: correctly opens in IrfanView (but Photos app is shown as default action in TB)

Expected

  • show correct app for default action

Also: Is there any way to verify the path of the app which is actually set in TB to handle the content type?

Well the icons are the icons on the system, no? And what the system will display them as doesn't change depending on what your action inside Thunderbird is.

Well the icons are the icons on the system, no? And what the system will display them as doesn't change depending on what your action inside Thunderbird is.

I know, but my problem is the other way round: The icon on the screenshot above shows the correct app which is set as system default (IrfanView, red cat), and also works from system, and is also used by TB, but the application which Thunderbird claims will be used to open is "Fotos" (previous Windows default), but even Thunderbird itself is no longer using that. Iow, it's the action side in preferences which is stale and not matching reality.
