RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 162008

People

(Reporter: amorim.andre.89, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:96.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/96.0

Steps to reproduce:

10 years ago, I tried Thunderbird in Windows XP. Seemed a very feature rich mail client. However, at that time I stuck with a fatal bug. If I deleted an email, and then pressed CTRL+Z to bring it back, it simply disappeared forever. If I deleted multiple emails successively, only the last one was restored.
I got pissed off because of that bug and no solution at that time, and gave up using Thunderbird.

Yesterday, 10 years later, I decided to have another try, now using Windows 11. I installed Thunderbird again, let all settings as default, didn't do anything except adding an email in IMAP mode (hotmail, btw).

So, as I did 10 years ago, I pressed CTRL+Z to restore a message that I had just sent to the thrash folder.

Actual results:

And then what? The email disappeared forever. After 10 years, the same bug.

Expected results:

As obvious, the email should be restored to the original folder.

All threads I searched reporting this bug had no acceptable solution. I have no pluggins to disable, theres nothing, just a fresh install. Theres nothing to change.

How is it possible an extremely serious bug like this was not corrected in 10 years?

perhaps Bug 427007? "Undo Move Message" loses message - after move from Gmail IMAP inbox to local folders

Flags: needinfo?(amorim.andre.89)

I was using a hotmail. I also realized when I undo a mail move across folders, it takes tons of time...
These are exaclty the same bugs I found 10 years ago.

Some argue that the IMAP server does not support undo delete or wathever. However, when I use the same email with the Microsoft Mail App, it does indeed suport undo delete. So its a Thunderbird specific bug. And its been here for more than 10 years, actually I found a 14 years old thread reporting this exact same bug.

(please use format of bug nnnn when referencing, so bugzilla can link it)

That bug was the first cut, before UIDPLUS was possible. UIDPLUS would be coming via bug 162008 or a related bug.
