User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:96.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/96.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a folder named ABCDE.
  2. Create a subfolder of that folder.
  3. Create a message filter that will move messages with the subject Testing 123 to the subfolder.
  4. Send a message to oneself with the subject Testing 123.
  5. Get Messages - when the message arrives, the subfolder's name will change color to blue.
  6. Rename folder ABCDE to ABCD - the folder will close.
  7. Reopen the folder - the subfolder is no longer blue.
  8. Rename folder ABCD to ABCDE - the subfolder is blue again.

Actual results:

See above.

Expected results:

The color of the subfolder should be unaffected by renaming its parent folder.

I neglected to include the following step:
2.5. Open folder ABCDE to see the subfolder.

Also, step 8 should be:
Rename folder ABCD to ABCDE, then reopen the folder - the subfolder is blue again.

And finally, the reproduction can be continued for more buggy behavior:
9. Move the mouse over the subfolder (and, if necessary, move it off and back onto the subfolder) - the subfolder's color changes back to black.

Ideally. Does this reproduce with version 115?

FWIW, I found (at least for me) that I can force new message indicators back on by doing search (ctrl+shift+k) across an account's entire folder hierarchy.

Soeren, does this reproduce for you?

The problem still exists in 115.8.0 (64-bit), but the color doesn't go back to blue when changing the parent folder back to its original name.

Barry does this also reproduce for you with 128?

This may be essentially the same as bug 1899087
