have had same problem using win xp pro with sp1....have also tried installing with admin and in safe mode.
dupe. Please try to download latest night build, since the fix is only in these builds (I think): http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/ *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 167515 ***

Tried latet nightly build. Used mozilla-win32-installer-sea.exe dated Oct 21,2002. Still same problem. Attaching latest install_status.log

still crashes with latest nightly build
Found a workaround. Rename c:/windows/system32/zlib.dll to zlib.dll_org Copy the attached zlib.dll (i got it from latest nightly mozilla-win32.zip) to c:/windows/system32 Start install of mozilla. Which now goes smoothly. put back original zlib.dll (delete new zlib.dll and rename zlib.dll_org to zlib.dll) Clearly there is still problem where zlib.dll is searched by installer
do you still have the issue using latest 1.2 build ? http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest-1.2
I have just tested with latest nightly 1.2 build mentioned above (build 2002111811) and it installed perfectly this time.
