The symptoms are exactly same as bug 167515. I saw it is fixed and verified.
so very enthusiastically tried 1.2 Beta. But is still fails installing the
very first component xpcom
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start execeuting Mozilla installer
2.it fails when it starts installing xpcom
3.
Actual Results:
a window popped the program can't continue as there is an error
and if I want to report the problem to microsoft.
Expected Results:
Should have continues installation.

have had same problem using win xp pro with sp1....have also tried installing
with admin and in safe mode.

dupe. Please try to download latest night build, since the fix is only in these
builds (I think):
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/

Tried latet nightly build. Used mozilla-win32-installer-sea.exe
dated Oct 21,2002. Still same problem. Attaching latest install_status.log
Status: RESOLVED → UNCONFIRMED

Found a workaround.
Rename c:/windows/system32/zlib.dll to zlib.dll_org
Copy the attached zlib.dll (i got it from latest nightly mozilla-win32.zip)
to c:/windows/system32
Start install of mozilla. Which now goes smoothly.
put back original zlib.dll (delete new zlib.dll and rename zlib.dll_org to
zlib.dll)
Clearly there is still problem where zlib.dll is searched by installer

I have just tested with latest nightly 1.2 build mentioned above (build
2002111811) and it installed perfectly this time.
