User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0
Steps to reproduce:
Just open Firefox. That's all that is needed. One tab, two tabs, any tabs, doesn't matter.
Trying to boot in safe mode has not helped, nor has the Firefox "minimize memory usage" option. I've tried disabling extensions, plugins, minimizing config options for memory, etc. and nothing brings the memory usage down.
Actual results:
Computer memory usage from Windows Task Manager spikes to nearly 1 GB from Firefox alone.
Expected results:
Computer memory usage from Windows Task Manager should stay very low, less than 100 MB.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Tabbed Browser' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hello Brett,
I tried reproducing this issue on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 99.0a1, beta 98.0b7 and release 97.0.1 but it works normally for me.
Testing with a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .

Hi Andrei,
Thanks for your response, I really appreciate it! I've tried refreshing Firefox and it unfortunately didn't change performance at all. I also tried the nightly build, and it's a little less but still extremely high (1000 MB with one tab open in regular Firefox, 700 MB with one tab open in nightly build). I'm not really sure what else to try at this point.

Hi all,
No changes on this end. I've gone through multiple updates of Windows, updates of Firefox, uninstalling/reinstalling -- I must just have bad luck with Firefox.
Thanks for all the ideas and help. Happy 2023 :)
Hey, brettbdaiger
If you still encounter this issue, could you provide us an update? Also, perhaps this page can offer a solution: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-or-cpu-resources.
