User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0

Steps to reproduce:

On Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6 , if I move Firefox in a subfolder of my Applications folder, then my preferences are lost. It is ok if Firefox is directly in Applications folder.
I reported this bug long time ago, it was corrected but it is back again.

Actual results:

Preferences are lost.

Expected results:

Firefox should work if it is in a subfolder of Applications folder.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Preferences' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Preferences

Hi tom.25,

Is this just preferences that you've changed, or all usage state? For example, are your bookmarks and history missing when you move Firefox into the subfolder?

Flags: needinfo?(tom.25)

I confirm this is the application Firefox.app that I moved in a sub-folder of the application folder. Then I lost all my settings:

  • my preferences
  • my authentification for synchronisation
  • my extension (Video DownloadHelper etc.)
Flags: needinfo?(tom.25)

Thanks tom.25. Okay, so it sounds like this is less about preferences, and more about the entire profile folder.

Component: Preferences → Startup and Profile System
Product: Firefox → Toolkit

We key default profile of the location of the binary so this just sounds like us creating a new profile as expected.

But if I set again my settings, enter my accountname/password it is ok, it works. But each time I quit Firefox and relaunch it it forget all. I have to set all my settings again.
