Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:98.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/98.0
Steps to reproduce:
I am using windows 7
Installed V98
Signed on to my normal website.
requested to download a file
This worked an hour ago.
Actual results:
Firefox did not provide a default application to start for this file type.
The only choice was save the file.
I cannot find the correct keystrokes to force firefox to open quicken for this file type.
Expected results:
If the file type is unknown to firefox. it should ask for a default application to use now and in the future.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::File Handling' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.
In Windows 10 version 98 of Firefox does not include an option for handling Quicken "QFX" files. This type of files should be able to ask to use the Quicken Web Connect application directly and not be forced to download the actual QFX data files to a folder and then be manually executed. This is a huge productivity loss for users with multiple accounts tracked in Quicken.

In version 97 firefox asked what you wanted to do. If you did ask for quicken it would open or use quicken without loading to a file and put it in the correct account in quicken. In 98 it will not open quicken and get the file to quicken.
Express Web Connect only works with not already downloaded transactions. The data aggregator is a single point of failure that requires your passwords for all download banks. If it is down or hacked you cannot do anything.
Please fix firefox or tell me the correct keystrokes to get from firefox to quicken.
Thanks
Alan

You can right click the qfx file in the download panel and click "always open similar files", and this will cause any future qfx downloads to open automatically with quicken. Alan or Chris, can you confirm that works?
There is more context available about these Firefox changes in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manage-downloads-preferences-using-downloads-menu- .
I don't have Quicken set up to logon to my account and process the transactions in Quicken. I select the download option after I log into my bank account. Until the latest Firefox version, my Web Connect download file automatically opened in Quicken's transaction list before adding them to my account in Quicken.
Right clicking on the QFX file shows that the file will always open in Quicken, and this does work. The problem is that Firefox no longer handles the QFX files like it did in previous versions. This is a frustrating step backwards that gets amplified when having multiple accounts to process.

I have been successful in processing quicken files most of the time and have not been able to understand why it does not work sometimes. Often banks keep a record of successful downloads and do not let you go back, which is very frustrating when the file does not process. Also the download file management now takes more time than it did before as you have to delete the file after processing. I agree with Sheryl, this is a step back.

(In reply to Alan McKenzie from comment #6)

I'm sorry, but I'm really unclear on what exactly you're describing. It sounds like the bank does not let you re-download the files, and you're saying the file sometimes "doesn't process" - can you elaborate on what you mean by that last part? Does the external application you use for these files fail to open, or does it produce errors when reading the files, or something else? Or does Firefox just download the file even though you told it to open the file automatically?
I'm additionally confused because you said that the files are no longer available from the bank, and so I'm wondering what you did before if this "not processing" happened, and the file was not available in the download directory as it is now - isn't the new behaviour better for you, given the file is available in the downloads directory if you need to try processing it again?
