If I want to send an encrypted mail to Jim.Hall@domain.com, but the certificate (other peoples) is issued to jim.hall@domain.com, mozilla will not find it.

Which version of the browser and build id are you using? This was fixed a while ago, but if you are using a new build, I will revisit it.

Checked it on a 1.1 system now. Certificate found, independend of case. But I was asked to download "certFetchingStatus.xul".
