I cannot download any mime type not handled by Mozilla. When I click on a link to a file with a ".gz", ".bz", or ".zip" extension (possibly others), the Mozilla icon in the upper right hand corner becomes animated (as it usually does when downloading and rendering a page) then stops and nothing happens. If there is a header redirect to the actual download, I get the following error message: -- "C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%\Local Settings\TEMP\%randomly generated filename%.extension source file could not be read. Try again, or contact the server administrator." -- The usual "save as" or "save" dialog box does not appear. The download manager will not open from the "Tools->Download Manager" menu. The proper Content-Type and Encodings are sent in the HTTP headers. This behaviour started when I upgrade to 1.2b from 1.2a. My only workaround for this in Windows is to open IE and copy/paste the link or wget in linux. Mozilla 1.2beta Windows XP Pro Pentium 1.5Ghz 128MB RAM
Shut down mozilla, delete compreg.dat and restart. (In the future, don't install over older builds.) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 171441 ***
