Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:98.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/98.0

Steps to reproduce:

Running 64 bit version on Win10. All accounts are POP3.
Highlight a message in the Smart Inbox.
Drag and drop it to a folder.

Actual results:

The selected message is placed into the target folder.
The message below in the Inbox is occasionally (5% of the time?) put into a different folder. (Usually, but not always the Sent folder...and usually, but not always, it is left in unread status so it's easy to find).

Expected results:

The second message shouldn't have been affected in any way.

Also happening after help > Troubleshoot mode?

Flags: needinfo?(davofanmail)

This happens very infrequently (like, once a week), and hasn't happened in a week or two.
If I can figure out a way to reproduce it, I'll do the Troubleshoot Mode thing.

ANALOGY: I've had trouble in the past while selecting one account from TB's GET MESSAGES dropdown -- where I KNOW I selected a specific mailbox, yet it triggered a GET ALL MESSAGES. Haven't seen this in awhile. I suspected at the time that the focus was too broad, or the click was somehow selecting between the accounts. I've also had issues in TB and in Windows Explorer where I select one or more items, and then, while dragging a long distance, the mouse "unclicks" -- sometimes abandoning the drag. but sometimes deciding HERE is where to drop things.

Perhaps your mouse -- or more properly, the mouse DRIVER -- has a strange interaction where the focus grabs both (ie - two consecutive) items. Both the intended target and the one just barely adjacent to the focus get dragged. I can't explain occasions if they go to different mailboxes.

In my own oddities, I know that my mouse's click contact is not perfect and sometimes issues a double-click on a single pressed click, or lets go momentarily (un-clicks) and releases selected items. Also, my new printer unexpectedly pops up a status dialogue occasionally and steals the focus from whatever I'm in the middle of -- even a click & drag session! Perhaps you have something doing similar thing(s) that interrupt the flow just long enough (milliseconds maybe) to cause your issue.

Hi Dan,
Good observations. In my case, I don't get any analogous behaviors in any other applications.
Further, the second message (which I didn't select) goes into a different Tbird folder (which I also didn't select).
I'm hoping this was a transient behavior -- we'll see if it recurs.

When this symptom occurs, the simple act of close/restart Tbird makes it go away...even with everything in "normal" mode. So switching to Troubleshoot mode inevitably clears it up, as Tbird has to restart to get there.

I'm trying to figure out how to make it occur repeatably, so I can really test whether Troubleshoot mode helps.

Reporter,
Does this still reproduce for you when using version 102?

Haven't seen this one in a while.
Probably should close it
