Have an option for download notification to appear in the webpage where the file
was being downloaded from.. in that page, display the status. I hate having my
focus changed for me, but I still want the information.
Of course, an easy solution is to use the download manager and leave it in the
background for future downloads.

It appears the point of this bug is that the reporter doesn't want download
operations to take focus away from the browser window, as might happen when the
download tracking window opens.
This is at least partly a window manager issue. If the download tracking window
gains focus, it's because the WM gave it focus, and this could be addressed by
reconfiguring or changing window managers. In any event, both firefox and
mozilla now support a download manager window that can be left open. Is there
still an issue to be addressed here?

As Kenneth said, the download manager can be kept open (in fact that's the only
way the suite DM can work). I can't think of a way to display the info in the
browser window properly (think multiple downloads), which was the original request.
