The last time this happened I changed the temp folder within Mozilla to c:\temp which it set to c:\documents and settings\etc. I went back and reset the temp to c:\temp and when I ran the Mail/News the accounts had been cleared and it prompted me with the Account Wizard. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

I don't know what to say. I've lost my mail settings (and all of my mail) twice now. There is NO excuse for this. I can't allow myself to use Mozilla mail anymore. THERE NEEDS TO BE AT LEAST A WAY TO ARCHIVE OLD EMAIL (IN CASE THIS SOFTWARE **** UP AND LOSES IT)!!! I don't know how to reproduce it, because it's very random. But for God's sake, make a way to archive old email... that would at least make the software usable.
Well, I have been completely unable to reproduce this error. But I may have not reproduced things exactly as they happened on your computer. I am a little unclear in what you mean by the temp folder of mozilla. Do you mean the cache folder. I have successfully changed the cache folder to c:\temp and restarted with no ill effects. Or, are you changing the local directory folder in mail/news? This is not supposed to be a temporary folder and this may be why you are seeing this issue. Finally, are you using IMAP or POP and do you have mozilla set to leave messages on the server? Also, could you attempt this again with a new build and see if you still are able to reproduce the problem? Thank you. for reference my system is: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7a) Gecko/20040114
