On my home email server (Zimbra) I have three other users who have delegated calendars to me. In CalDAV Sync on Android when I add my account and it brings up the list of calendars to ask if I want to sync them, all of the delegated calendars are there in addition to my own, which leads me to believe they are actually discoverable. In Thunderbird only my own calendars show up.

Also, happy to set up an account for someone and share a calendar to it on my server if you need somewhere to experiment, too.
