Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:100.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/100.0
Steps to reproduce:
In macOS, pin some tabs in the main window of Firefox. Then, open "Private Window", close it, then quit Firefox.
Actual results:
When Firefox has opened again, the pinned tabs will vanish and some extensions such as the Simple Tab Groups will crash.
Expected results:
In macOS, the red X in the top left of the Firefox window does not force Firefox windows to quit. It seems when a private window is closed using X, it remains open while it is not shown in macOS. Therefore, closing Firefox leads to a crash.
Please kindly note that all pinned tabs in Firefox will be closed if Firefox is not closed before the system restart, having multiple windows open or if it crashes while more than a window is open. This bug is reported a long time ago but is not fixed yet. It is a serious bug that leads to serious data loss for many macOS users.

I'm using pinned tabs and private browsing windows and certainly have never seen this before. Does this reproduce in safe mode and/or a clean profile?
Hi Stephen,
Thanks for your reply. In safe mode, it happens when the main Firefox window closes soon after closing the private window. I tried it several times and it worked well. However, the pinned tabs were lost in random cases. It seems that waiting for a few minutes after closing the private tab would be helpful. The pinned tabs will be lost in Firefox if the window where the pinned tabs are present is closed before the other windows. It seems it could be related to this issue.
Update: A similar problem occurs by using the X button to close the Firefox window, then right-click on the Firefox icon in Dock, then select Quit. In this case, the website's fav-icons in open tabs will be lost as well.

I've managed to reproduce the second scenario described in this bug using Nightly 105.0a1 and Firefox 103.0.2 on macOS Ventura 13 more precisely: The pinned tabs will be lost in Firefox if the window where the pinned tabs are present is closed before the other windows.
Because there is another similar bug on this matter Bug 1738596, I'm going to mark this one as duplicate.
