Details

Steps to reproduce:

I created a screenshot in Windows using the hotkey Windows + Shift + S

I pasted the screenshot into a new mail window. (STRG + V)
I sent the mail.

Actual results:

The screenshot was missing from the message after sending even though the image was rendered visibly in the text window.

Expected results:

The screenshot should be part of the message either embedded (as shown) or attached as a file.

My mail format setting is "auto".
If I manually set it to HTML mail, then the screenshot is sent correctly.

I can't test this in a fresh profile at the moment.
If that is required or if you cannot reproduce this bug, then pls message me and I'll free some time to take further look at this.

I set some about:config values in the past in order to autowrap my plaintext messages after 72 characters, but html mails should still be detected as such by pasting a screenshot into the message body. The auto config is turned on after all.

Regards
Djfe

My Thunderbird version: 91.9.0 32bit

Djfe,
Are you also seeing this in version 91?

Hi,

actually later on I found out, that one of the settings, I chose always preferred plain text mails over html mails when on auto.
I fixed the setting (don't remember which one). I think I had it set this way because some mails didn't get automatic line wraps (probably answers to html mails where html mails by default). I didn't know back then that automatic line wraps where for plain text mails only.

Anyways: it's set to automatic now.
Once I paste an image into the mail body, it is send as an html mail instead of plain text.

If I manually choose plain text then I can still paste the image into the mail body but it won't be send. Not even as an attachment.

Is this something worth fixing? (embedded images in plain text mails turned into mail attachments)
Why is this useful? Because sometimes you don't have a way to save a screenshot/an image from your clipboard into a file (print button on your keyboard) but want to send it within a plain text mail.

Screenrecording on Thunderbird 102.4.0 (32bit):

(If you still want me to test 91, then I could do so. But I don't see a point in that)

Flags: needinfo?(felix.bau)

I forgot to add: the screenrecording was done in a fresh profile. (except just a few settings that shouldn't have affected anything)
