Reporter: Have you deleted the file "compreg.dat" or installed mozilla in a clean directory ?

yes, why not. this old compreg.dat can also cause a crash. Reporter: Please reopen if you see this with a clean install and/or deleted compreg.dat. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 171441 ***

Peter : according to the bug report, the user is aware of bug 171441 but thinks this is different. Reporter : the information you give is ambigious : OS is set to Win2k, yet your user agent says "Linux i986, hi Mom". This makes tracking bugs a bit harder. Seeing an error in appcomps.dll, i will just assume that you're on Win2K. The way i read this, there are two seperate bugs here. My suggestion is to mark this bug a duplicate of 171441 for the failing downloads, and ask the reporter to submit a new (separate) bug for the browser crash in appcomps.dll.

Patrick : no, the user has the old "compreg.dat". A bug is only useful if he get a crash with a clean install.
Patrick: roger that. One bug - one issue. Downlowad problem is a dupe; the other bug (dll crash) should go to a new bug; so far it is INVALID because the information is missing or incosistent. verified dupe.
