There are a package of completely free high-quality fonts called FreeFonts (available from http://www.nongnu.org/freefont/) that I have tried with a xft-enabled Mozilla. Unfortunately, the result is poor if I choose FreeSerif as my serif-font in Mozilla. The screenshot below will show that. I will also include a screenshot from Konqueror using the same font.

one screenshot shows a serif font, the other one shows a sans-serif font. They are screenshots of browsers using two different fonts, obviously.

Duh, sorry about that. Konqueror apparently cares more about what you have set your General Font to than what your settinf for serif- and sans-serif are. INVALID since it looks like shit in Konqueror too.

verified invalid. (And may I recommend the so called "MS webfonts", AFAIK available from sourceforge as well as in some upgrade packages from Microsoft.)
No longer blocks: xft_tracking
