Firefox for Android has a "Add to shortcuts" option in the main menu. Desktop Firefox should have this too! (I just got a new laptop and I'm quite disappointed that I have to go through the unnecessarily long process of going to a website enough times for it to show up in my shortcuts, THEN I can click then menu in the corner and select "Pin")

Also I believe this should be added to this tracking bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=565512

Hi Will,

Thank you, I think it's a great suggestion! I'm tagging Akash, the PM who's working on improving the New Tab surface, so he's aware of the ask.

I also wanted to add a link to Mozilla Connect here. This is Mozilla's new platform for handling product ideas and enhancements requests, and relevant area PMs regularly review suggestions there. It also allows other users to vote for ideas and asks, and highest-voted ones inform out backlog (e.g., the team I'm on is now working on a user-suggested improvement from Connect). It is a bit harder for us to keep track of metabugs spanning across components, so Connect is the best bet for a feature request to be reviewed.

Thank you! Also if it's not too much trouble, can you look at this other issue with the new tab page? I filed this one 3 years ago and still no movement on it :( https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1574732

Hi Will, thank you so much for your feedback! This is a great point and I'd love to hear more from you on it.

Like Ania mentioned, Mozilla Connect is the best place for us to have that discussion. If you haven't already, please join me in a discussion there!

In the short-term: with Firefox Desktop Shortcuts (on the New Tab page) you can also hover over any shortcut, click the 3-dot menu, and click 'Edit'. From there you'll be able to add any shortcut you like, rather than wait for it to appear on it's own in the grid.

And if UI/UX doesn't like the idea of putting this option in the URL's bookmark button menu, you can add a "Add shortcut" button right there instead! Chrome and Edge have this (see attached screenshot)
