I think he meant anti-aliased fonts..
Use of freetype library for font display could deliver some serious benefits for phoenix, besides anti-aliased fonts. 1. faster rendering of fonts. 2. better font display. 3. better control. won't this help phoenix to be faster ? /* for the fresh to freetype I refer you to www.freetype.org The linux guys already enjoying this cool library. */
