User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0
Steps to reproduce:
Firefox indicated new version (102) was available for download, hit ok to download, on restart of Firefox, book marks were gone and are not restorable...
Actual results:
Bookmarks toolbar is empty, says to "Manage bookmarks...". On selecting "Manage bookmarks", the bookmark manager shows nothing and does not allow any update or restoring....
Expected results:
Update should not destroy bookmarks...

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Bookmarks & History' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Could you please check in about:profiles if your profile is still the one in use?

Hi Hani,
This is what I currently see in about:profiles:
Profile: default-release
This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.
Default Profile yes
Root Directory /Users/jiri/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/d1ojjuyi.default-release
Local Directory /Users/jiri/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/d1ojjuyi.default-release
Profile: default
Default Profile no
Root Directory /Users/jiri/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/x93jopx2.default
Local Directory /Users/jiri/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/x93jopx2.default
I also checked that a restart of FF without addins does not resolve the issue I am seeing.

Do you know if you lost anything else in the update, e.g. saved passwords, settings?
Do you have any history from before the update?
Could you try loading the "default" profile in a new browser window and see if that has your data?

Hi Mark,
thanks for getting back to me.
1./2. So I have my data on another machine as backup, so I am not too worried about data being lost.
3. I tried to load the default profile from the about:profile page, and this opens up with a fresh bookmark toolbar.
4. I reinstalled firefox, but I still get the same issue with my regular profile.
I will try to make a copy of the profile on my laptop (working setup, but older version of Firefox)
and drop it into the Profiles folder above and see if selecting that will solve the issue.
Thanks for looking into this.
Regards
Jiri

Hi,
I managed to resolve the issue by completely removing firefox+all data from my machine, reinstalling, and syncing with my profile.
It is still not clear what caused this issue, but this at least solved it for me.
Regards,
Jiri

I don't think we can investigate this further at this point.
